HISTORY:
Nottingham Wildcats are the
longest-serving members of the Women's National League, having entered as
founder-members of Division 2 in 1976, the year before Sheffield Hatters.
They had a brief, two year, spell in
Division 1 from 1977 to 1979, before returning to Division 2 (North) for another
season. Promoted again in 1980, they have been in continuous membership of
Division 1 ever since - making this their record-breaking 29th successive season
in the top division.
Incredibly, in that time they have
never won a national title, although they have remained competitive throughout,
securing second place in the League in 1984, and 3rd place on five occasions.
They have been losing Finalists in the National Cup twice, in 1991 and 2004.
Firmly committed to the development
of young English talent, the Wildcats were instrumental in the development,
building and running of the Jesse Boot Wildcats Arena, which is the focus for
basketball development for both men and women in Nottingham..
