You've heard of Murphy's Law, which says that everything that can go wrong will go wrong; and of Sod's Law which reckons that Murphy was an optimist; well, now meet Jacques' Law ... I tell you that Sod is really lucky!.
I got down here, to Cosford in plenty of time this morning, and was going well with keeping up with writing reports as the matches progressed, and at the end of the Under-16 semi-finals I was ready to post the information online. That was when I discovered that there's so much metal in the building that it creates a marvellous mobile-phone shield, and I couldn't get online.
Checking outside the building I found that I could get good reception, so the next ten minutes saw me kneeling on the path, under a tree to stay out of the drizzle, with my laptop and phone on the ground in front of me while I uploaded the relevant pages.
At the end of the second round of semi-finals (the Under-18 women), I again had all the information typed up and ready to go ... only to stick my head outside to find it was now pouring with rain. I'm sure that the effect of falling water onto a laptop would produce an interesting spectacle, but I declined the opportunity to find out!
So, if you're reading this, it means I had no problems getting online back at the hotel. As for tomorrow, whether there are updates during the day, or one big one at the end, will depend very much on the weather!
