The Bristol Academy Flyers had to say farewell to some of their players from last year but have already begun to replace them with some exciting new faces. Abe has been a great servant to Bristol Basketball throughout the years and has been a great ambassador for the development work carried out in the City.

The Flyers first signing is Brody Bishop from Canada where he studied at Laurentian University. Brody has a British passport and has some pedigree as his Dad played Basketball for England before returning to Canada to coach. Brody had a successful season in the BBL last year with the Plymouth Raiders and joins ex Raider  and Flyers Captain Gareth Till in Bristol Academy’s line up for this season.

Flyers second signing is John Grazioli, a 6”8 versatile Forward from New York. John played for Hobart college at the NCAA Div 3 level and was named in the 2007-08 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-East second team.

Bishop of Bristol

Bristol Academy Flyers Basketball Club have made their first signing of the new basketball season with the signature of 23 year old, 6’2 Canadian Point Guard Brody Bishop.

Bishop joins the Flyers after a great college career at Lauretian College, (Canada) and a year in the British Basketball League with Plymouth Raiders. He comes from a family of Basketball as his Father played Basketball for top flight Basketball for Crystal Palace in the 70’s and also England before emigrating to Canada.

Brody has dual Nationality and will be part of the Flyers Hoops 4 healthy Hearts delivering basketball to the community. Coach Andreas Kapoulas is extremely pleased with how Brody has fitted into his young team and thinks that Bishops experience and work ethic will only enhance the development of the younger players in the squad.

Flyers who finished 4th in National League Division I last year are looking to build on this success and are still hoping to make two more additions to the team in the coming weeks. Flyers are awaiting a work permit for a 6’8 America forward and are also looking to add another import player to the team as well.

The return of the USA all star select team this year is very poignant as the teams meet on the anniversary of the September the 11th , there will be a minutes silence prior to the game to commemorate the anniversary
