w/e 23/04/06 GIRLS UNDER 16 NATIONAL PLAY-OFF QUARTER FINAL SEVENOAKS SUNS 79 SOUTHEND SWIFTS 66 So after the successes of the under 18 and under 14 teams, it was the turn of the Southend Swifts under 16 team to try and reach the National Finals at RAF Cosford. They visited Sevenoaks Suns who were unbeaten in winning the South West Division; Swifts having finished second in the South East Division. Sevenoaks made the opening score but a strong move from Celine Wilding tied the game up before a 7-2 run for Southend gave them a 9-4 lead; Emma Hart with five. The teams traded baskets to 12 before an 8-1 run over the last three minutes gave Sevenoaks a 20-13 first quarter lead. Swifts' changes in defensive formation were beginning to reap rewards as an 8-1 run levelled the scores at 21. Jennie Rodgers and Jacquelyn Jobey were beginning to find the basket as the home side edged one point ahead at 28-27. They scored the next four before a Hart three-pointer brought it back to a one point game before a late score made it 34-30 to Sevenoaks at the half time interval. A strong start for Sevenoaks took them 43-33 ahead but Southend retained their composure and scored the next seven, with Rachel Armstrong and Megan Roffey getting onto the score sheet. The home side's pressing defence was starting to create turnovers but with Rodgers, Jobey and Hart continuing to score, the margin remained at three until the final minute to give Sevenoaks a 53-48 lead going into the final quarter. After three minutes it was still a five point game but a decisive 10-2 run gave the home side a conclusive margin. A three-pointer from Jobey brought it back to 10 but Swifts could get no closer despite late baskets from Rebecca Brough. Hart 26, Jobey 14 and Rodgers 11 had made the major scoring contributions in another excellent team performance for the club. w/e 09/04/06
GIRLS UNDER 16 PLAY-OFFS - FIRST ROUND First into action were the under 16 side, who by finishing as runners-up in the South East conference, met Chiltern Pumas who finished third in the South West division. This is very much unknown territory for both teams, as there is no way of gauging the relative strengths of the different leagues. But Swifts were determined to stamp their authority on proceedings and they made an incredible start, scoring the first 20 points of the contest to effectively put the game beyond doubt within eight minutes. Time and again their pressing defence caused Chiltern to turn the ball over and even though some relatively easy chances were squandered, a score line of 29-4 at the end of the first quarter told its tale. Regular changes of line-up made little difference as Pumas were never allowed to settle and with captain Emma Hart converting two three-pointers and 14 year old Katie Doubleday scoring well off of fast breaks, the lead had extended to 54-14 at half time. Swifts took the opportunity to cease their pressing defence but this seemed to disorientate them as they failed to score for the opening three minutes of the third quarter. But with the fleet-footed Rebecca Brough starting to carve her way through opposition, the margin soon stretched to 61-16. The home side elected to give the four under 14 players the chance to show their paces and they put together an 18-4 run that took the score at the end of the third period to 79-20; Jennie Rodgers and Francesca Whitby combining for 10. The scoring load continued to be spread around with Rachel Armstrong, Sally Degge, Jacquelyn Jobey and Megan Roffey all making significant contributions. All that was left was to reach the three figure mark, which was duly achieved with another Brough fast break and with Hart making her fourth three-pointer in the final seconds, the 110-29 victory was far better than could have possibly been expected at this stage of the season. Hart 30, Brough 19 and Armstrong 12 leading a superb team effort. End of the road for “Hurricanes” Cadette Women’s Play Offs 1st Round Manchester “Mystics” 101 – 23 Northants “Hurricanes” When the Northants “Hurricanes” realised they would face National Cup winners Manchester “Mystic” in the 1st Round of the Play Offs they knew they would be in for a tough time. Just how tough probably came as a surprise as the county girls were totally outclassed at the John Amaechi Basketball Centre. The game was over as a contest by the end of the first quarter with the “Mystics” charging into a 28-2 lead. This advantage was increased to 56-6 by half time leaving the “Hurricanes” with only pride to play for in the final two periods. Things got no better in the third quarter which went to Manchester 33-6 but at least the game closed on a better note for the “Hurricanes” as they were at least competitive in the final period which they lost 15-11. In the 101-23 mauling no “Hurricane” player got to double figures Jordan Elliott-King top scoring with 9. w/e 02/04/06 Roxie wins it for the “Hurricanes” Cadette Women’s Midlands Conference Northants “Hurricanes” 52 -49 Doncaster “Panthers” A three-pointer from Roxanne Francis fifteen seconds before the end of the game earned a win for the Northants “Hurricanes” over Doncaster “Panthers” last Saturday. The win guarantees the county girls fourth place in the Midlands Conference and a place in the Play Offs which start this weekend. Unfortunately that’s where the good news ends because in the 1st Round of the Play Offs the “Hurricanes” will face Northern Conference champions and National Cup winners Manchester “Mystics”. Against Doncaster the “Hurricanes” found scoring very difficult in the first quarter and by the end of the period trailed 16-8. That score line was reversed in the second period as the county girls adjusted their play against Doncaster’s zone defence. Even so they could have gone in at half time with a comfortable lead had they not missed no less than eight free throws. The “Hurricanes” no doubt inspired by a half time team talk came out for the third quarter in confident mood outscoring the northerners 8-zero to take a 32-24 lead. Then they slipped back into their bad habits of over-dribbling against the zone defence frequently turning the ball over. Doncaster were able to capitalise on these errors and by the end of the period had fought back to lead 35-34. A three-pointer from Jordan Elliott-King at the start of the fourth quarter swung the advantage back in favour of the “Hurricanes” and midway through the period the lead had been extended to six points at 41-35. Again the county girls were guilty of lack of composure allowing the “Panthers” to level at 43 all. A put back from Hannah Matthews and two successful free throws from Amy O’Connor gave the lead back to the “Hurricanes” but once again they were guilty of poor defending allowing Doncaster to equalise at 47 all. The teams exchanged free throws and going into the last 30 seconds of play the teams were tied at 49; then with fifteen seconds left on the shot clock Roxanne Francis drained the all important three-pointer to give her team the lead. Doncaster were unable to get off a final shot and the “Hurricanes” had a win which at times they had seemed intent on ‘gifting’ to their opponents. Once again Jordan Elliott-King led the scoring for the “Hurricanes” with 12 points. Ten other players got onto the score sheet but none of them could get into double figures. w/e 26/03/06 “Hurricanes” get back to winning ways against H & B Hinckley and Bosworth “Lady Hoops “ 36 – 88 Northants “Hurricanes” After their mauling at the hands of Nottingham last week the Northants “Hurricanes” found the going a lot easier against the Hinckley & Bosworth “Lady Hoops”; the county girls running out winners by 52 points. The win keeps the “Hurricanes” in the frame for the end of season Play Offs but their fourth place in the Midlands Conference looks set to earn them a tough 1st Round game away against Manchester. Against the “Lady Hoops” the “Hurricanes “ established a 37-12 lead by half time and were able to extend that advantage during the second half. Roxanne Francis top scored with 18 points and he received excellent support from Harriett Moss, Gabby Patrick and Jordan Elliott-King all of whom scored in double figures. This weekend the girls entertain Doncaster w/e 19/03/06 WOMENS UNDER 16 NATIONAL LEAGUE - SOUTH EAST CONFERENCE LONDON TOWERS 40 SOUTHEND SWIFTS 83 After the disappointment of the under 14 game, it was the turn of Swifts' under 16 team to take on London Towers. An incredible level of injury, illness and unavailabilities leaving Southend with just five under 16's; the balance of the team being made up of under 14 players. But from a lacklustre start, the Essex side sprang into action with 10 unanswered points; Sally Degge and Emma Hart with 4 apiece. With Rebecca Brough and Rachel Armstrong maintaining the upbeat tempo, Swifts had extended the lead to 19-7 at the end of the first quarter. A three pointer from Hart opened proceedings in the second period as the introduction of the under 14 players maintained the defensive pressure. Francesca Whitby athletically converted two fast breaks and with Maisie Elston and Hannah Culwick finding the basket, the lead extended to 48-17 at half time; Hart already with 20 points. Southend kept up the momentum in the third quarter, restricting their opponents to just six points whist scoring 22 themselves, including 11 straight for Hart. The youngsters also played their part, with 13 year old Christina Gaskin showing her outstanding potential; Swifts leading 70-23 going into the final period.
Unsurprisingly Swifts relaxed the intensity in the final 10 minutes but the match was never in doubt as they finished their league programme in second place with a comfortable 83-40 victory; Hart with 33 points and Brough with 15. “Hurricanes” are a distant second to impressive “Wildcats”Cadet Women’s Midlands Conference Northants “Hurricanes” 41 – 76 Nottingham “Wilcats” After their battling win over Birmingham “Force” the previous week the Northants “Hurricanes” Cadette Women went into the game against Nottingham “Wildcats” full of hope. That hope disappeared during the first quarter of play which saw the county girls’ trail 34-11. The “Hurricanes” game plan was to try and contain England centre Hannah Shaw and to a certain degree they succeeded but they didn’t anticipate the excellent perimeter shooting of Josie Pointon and Beth Weldon who drained five ‘three-pointers between them in that first quarter. In the second period of play Shaw came more into her own end the “Hurricanes” lost that quarter 20-10 to trail 52-21 at half time. To their credit the county girls never gave up and only lost the second half 24-20 but the damage had already been done. The team is hanging on to the fourth and final Play Off place with two games remaining, this Sunday they travel to Hinckley & Bosworth. w/e 12/03/06 “Hurricanes” keep Play Off hopes alive thanks to a nail-biting win over Birmingham Northants “Hurricanes” 57 – 56 Birmingham “Force” The Northants “Hurricanes” Cadette Women kept their Play Off hopes alive with a nail biting win over a Birmingham “Force”. The county girls managed the win despite letting a 10 point lead slip away at the end of the third quarter. The win means the “Hurricanes” need to win two of their remaining three games and hope that Birmingham don’t win against one of the top three teams. If that happened the “Hurricanes” would finish in 4th place and then face the top team from the Northern Conference namely, Manchester “Mystics” who last weekend won the Cadette Women’s Cup. Against Birmingham the team had to contain the threat of 6 feet 2 inch Dominique Allen but the Birmingham centre picked up three quick fouls and was sat out by the “Force” coach. Even so the “Hurricanes” offence lacked a cutting edge until the introduction of Whitney Bain who was playing 2 years under age. Bain grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and scored 6 points but her team still trailed 14-12 at the end of the quarter. With Allen still out of the game the Northants girls found their momentum in the second period and a 17-7 run gave them the lead at 29-21. The Birmingham coach re-introduced Allen into the game but on the stroke of half time the influential player was called for a foul her fourth, when scrambling for a loose ball. The first 5 minutes of the third quarter saw the “Hurricanes” play their best basketball of the game and midway through the period had extended their lead to ten points at 40-30. Back came Allen into the game and Birmingham immediately went on a 13-2 charge to give them a 43-42 lead at the end of the quarter. With Allen in the game Birmingham began to dominate the rebounding department of the game and the visitors kept their noses in front despite missing three free throws at the start of the fourth quarter. Trailing 52-49 it looked as if the “Hurricanes” were about to slip to their third consecutive defeat but excellent defence forced two turn-overs and scores for Roxanne Francis and Chloe Moss gave the “Hurricanes” the lead at 53-52. Jordan Elliott-King who had played exceptionally well missed two free throws but then Moss came up with a breakaway score and one free throw to extend the lead to 56-52 but Birmingham weren’t finished. An long range shot got the lead down to two, Lucy Jeffrey scored her only point of the game from the free throw line to make the score 57-54 before Allen scored with a put back. Trailing 57-56 Birmingham were forced to foul. Needing just to keep possession a “Hurricane” shot was blocked but Birmingham weren’t able to get away a shot and the Northants girls had held on for a one point win. For the “Hurricanes”, Jordan Elliott-King top scored with 19 points while Chloe Moss enjoyed her best game of the season with 11 points while ball handlers Roxanne Francis and Whitney Bain contributed 9 and 8 points respectively. “Lightning” triumph against City of Birmingham City of Birmingham 47 – 74 Northants “Lightning” The Northants “Lightning” kept their Play Off hopes alive with a convincing victory over City of Birmingham in a scrappy game. The Northants boys won all four quarters but they need to win their three remaining games and then hope that lowly Huddersfield beat Sheffield “Sharks”. Against Birmingham the “Lightning” played excellent defence but their own offence was far too static. Even so by half time the county boys had established a comfortable lead at 32-16. Birmingham was far more competitive at the start of the third period and a 7-2 charge got the deficit down 11 at 34-23. A time out from “Lightning” coach, Richard Leaf got his team back on course and by the end of the period the lead was up to 20 at 50-30. The two teams exchanged baskets during the fourth quarter until the county boys went on a 12-2 blitz during the last 3 minutes of the game to close out winners by 74 points to 47. In the 27 points win Chris Caird top scored with 17 points while David Nuttall and Aaron Franks also got into double figures. This weekend the team are home to East Durham. SOUTHEND SWIFTS 89 BRIXTON TOPCATS 70 So after the senior game at Colchester, it was back down the A12 for a number of players as they took part in the under 16 match against Brixton Topcats; Swifts needing victory to ensure they maintained second place in the conference. Helen Francis scored two quick baskets for Southend, but Brixton hit back and after five minutes the scores were tied at 6. But six points in a row for Emma Hart triggered an 18-2 run that gave the hosts a 24-8 first quarter lead. The first seven points of the second period extended Swifts' lead to 31-8 and with Megan Roffey, Jacquelyn Jobey and Celine Wilding finding the basket with regularity, the margin had stretched to 50-24 at the half time break. Brixton battled hard to get back into the contest but Southend's pressure defence continued to bring rewards and with Hart scoring 14 points in the quarter, the scoreline stood at 76-45 going into the final period. Swifts took the opportunity of giving under 14 player Ella Rees her first extended opportunity in the older age group, and she got onto the scoresheet as well as rebounding well. With Sally Degge continuing her improved form, the home side had extended their lead to 88-56 as with four minutes remaining on the back of two lay-ups from Rebecca Brough. Unsurprisingly, the team's concentration relaxed giving Topcats the chance to give the final result some respectability by scoring 14 of the final 15 points as Swifts ran out comfortable winners by 89 points to 70; Hart with 27, Roffey 12 and Brough, Francis and Degge all with 10.
BRIXTON TOPCATS 71 SOUTHEND SWIFTS 85 Just 18 hours later the teams met again, this time in South London. Swifts depleted playing numbers meaning that for the first time they fielded a primary school pupil in an under 16 match - 11 year old Jessica Holland suiting up for the older team. Brixton were determined to reverse the previous day's result as they scored the first four points before there was a complete transformation with Southend scoring the next 26 points over a seven minute period; all 5 starters contributing on the way to a 26-6 first quarter lead. The barrage continued in the second quarter as the margin stretched to 37-14, with Emma Hart scoring well close to the basket although Topcats hit back strongly with a 12-6 run that left the score at 43-28 at the half time interval. Good shooting from Jacquelyn Jobey and Rebecca Brough made it 51-32 but a 10-4 run for the South Londoners gave a sign of things to come. Swifts hit the next six (Megan Roffey with four) but nine straight for Brixton brought the margin to single digits before scores from Sally Degge and Brough left it at 64-53 with one period remaining. Topcats again reduced the margin below 10 at 68-59 but Roffey and Brough took control of matters and they shared Southend's next 13 points as the team recovered their composure to lead 81-65 although the hosts fought to the last, scoring the final five points but could get no closer as Swifts ended with a slightly less than convincing 85-71 victory. Roffey with a best-ever 24 points, Hart 21, Brough 18 and Jobey 14 leading the scoring in a win that consolidates the teams position as runners-up in their conference. Next weekend sees both the under 14 and under 16 teams in action at London Towers on Saturday. On Sunday the boys are at home to Great Baddow at Greensward College at 12.30 followed by the under 14 girls second away fixture of the weekend at Brentwood. w/e 05/03/06 No joy for sad “Hurricanes” against Hatfield Hatfield “Flyers 42 - 26 Northants “Hurricanes” The Northants “Hurricanes” Cadette Women slipped to defeat in a low scoring game against Hatfield “Flyers” last Sunday. Now the team that started the season so well face a crunch game against Birmingham “Force” this Sunday to decide the fourth and final Play Off position. The game against Hatfield was a very physical affair with the “Hurricanes” failing to get to double figures in all four quarters. The girls battled hard and played excellent defence but crucial perimeter shots failed to drop. Gabby Patrick with 12 was the team’s only significant point’s scorer. SOUTHEND SWIFTS 66 HARINGEY ANGELS 67 Injury and illness decimated the Southend Swifts under 16 team meaning that no less than seven members of the under 14 side were brought into action when champions-elect Haringey Angels were the visitors to Greensward College. Two baskets from captain Emma Hart gave her team an early lead but Haringey replied to tie the scores at eight after five minutes. Poor foul shooting hampered the visitors and they converted just one shot from nine attempts before taking a 12-10 lead with two minutes to play in the first quarter. Swifts hit back with scores from Kitty Hall and Jacquelyn Jobey to hold a 14-12 lead after the opening 10 minutes. Angels quickly drew level before a Hart three-pointer triggered a 9-6 run that opened a three point lead. The Londoners made the next five but good foul shooting for the hosts made it 29-27 with two minutes remaining before eight unanswered points gave Haringey a 35-29 lead. Worse was to follow as Southend conceded the first 10 points of the third period to trail 45-29 after four minutes. But a time-out seemed to have the desired effect as Hart scored 11 of her teams next 13 points to reduce the deficit to 51-42. But this time poor foul shooting would hurt Swifts as they trailed 57-42 going into the final quarter. But another Hart three-pointer started a six point run they brought it back to 57-51. Angels managed one foul shot before an 8-2 stretch, with two more Hart three-pointers and a long range effort from 13 year old Christina Gaskin, made it 60-59 with four minutes remaining and the crowd watching with incredulity. Haringey took it back to three but Jennie Rodgers showed ice cool nerves to slot home two foul shots. Haringey made the next four but Rodgers and Jobey replied and going into the last minute it was 66-65. With nerves on edge, Angels made one foul shot and with Swifts regaining possession Megan Roffey, who had been superb throughout, was fouled and had the opportunity to tie the game up. She made just one shot from two and Haringey had the ball back with seven seconds remaining. Incredibly Southend stole the ball but the pass forward was intercepted and Haringey's unbeaten record remained intact at the end of a sensational game. Hart leading her team with 35 points and Jobey on 16 but with all of the youngsters turning in outstanding performances. BRENTWOOD FIRE 31 SOUTHEND SWIFTS 92 Later in the day Southend Swifts under 16 girls team made the same journey as the men's team, across to Brentwood, seeking to maintain second place in their conference; Swifts having already won the previous two games in convincing fashion. With a number of players out with injury, illness and holiday commitments, Swifts had four members of their under 14 team in action. From a 7-4 lead midway through the first quarter, Southend exploded into action, going on a 17-2 run in the remaining five minutes that would effectively settle proceedings. The second period saw more devastating play as a 9-2 run over the first four minutes and a 12-4 stretch in the final three took Swifts to an unassailable 43-16 half time lead; captain Emma Hart already with 22 points. Still the barrage continued with excellent shooting from Jacquelyn Jobey leading a 13-0 run. With Hart and Jobey taking well-earned rests, Sally Degge and Megan Roffey scored freely as Southend extended their lead to 72-24 having registered a stunning 29 points in the quarter.
But the young ladies were
in no mood to relax and with Jennie Rodgers and Celine Wilding getting in on
the scoring act, Southend concluded a convincing 92-31 win with Hart on 32,
Rodgers 14, Jobey 12 and Degge a best-ever 10. SOUTHEND SWIFTS 73 ESSEX AND HERTS LEOPARDS 65 This match was always likely to be the highlight of the day as the Southend Swifts under 16 side welcomed Essex and Herts Leopards to Greensward College. Both sides had recorded a victory each in matches earlier in the season and the winner would almost certainly gain second place in the South East Conference. Despite having just 6 players, Leopards came out strongly, opening a 15-5 lead, before a time-out for Swifts seemed to have the desired effect as their defensive intensity was increased to peg back the margin to 19-11 at the end of the first quarter. But the second period would prove decisive as Southend played some of their best basketball of the season. With Rebecca Brough playing sensational defence, Essex and Herts were restricted to just six points in seven minutes as the home side scored 15 of their own to take a one point advantage at 26-25. Leopards replied with the next three before Southend captain Emma Hart scored successive three-pointers to give her side a four point margin, which they increased to six at the half time interval with a 38-32 lead. Five points from Hart gave Swifts an 11 point edge before the home side found yet another outstanding prospect from their deep mine of talent. 13 year old Jennie Rodgers dominated play at both ends of the court, scoring seven straight points, to take her team 50-36 ahead and baskets from Brough and Rachel Armstrong made it to 54-36 and what should have been a comfortable win. But a lack of concentration meant easy scoring opportunities were missed, allowing Leopards to battle back to 57-44 with the final 10 minutes to play. The visitors change of defence looked to unsettle Swifts as they scored the first five points but another Hart three-pointer, her sixth of the afternoon, restored the double digit advantage and a further basket from the captain made it 62-50. But a collision was ruled against the Southend youngster and she had to leave proceedings with five fouls with eight minutes remaining in the game. Leopards scored the next basket before five straight for Swifts, including a huge three-pointer from Jacquelyn Jobey, made it 67-52. But Leopards took advantage of their height advantage and they scored the next 11 points to bring the match back to 67-63 with two minutes remaining and the crowd noise at a crescendo. A lay-up off a fast break from Brough settled the nerves and a basket from Jobey and two foul shots from Celine Wilding eased Southend to victory that brought huge applause for both teams from the large watching crowds. Zianna Bofenda had been superb for Leopards with 24 points but for Swifts Emma Hart with 32 and Rebecca Brough 13 plus numerous steals had led their side to an outstanding win.
w/e 05/02/06 “Hurricanes” maintain their winning form Cadette Women’s Midland Conference Doncaster “Panthers” 46 – 54 Northants “Hurricanes” The Northants “Lightning” (Cadette Women) made it back-to-back wins a so go a little further to putting their five match losing streak to the back of their minds. Even so the county girls made life difficult for themselves in the final period of play. Up until then they had dominated the game and thanks to their pressure defence had built up a comfortable 46-28 lead. Then, they relaxed their intensity and the “Panthers” got back into the game. The home side won the fourth quarter 18-8 to cause the “Hurricanes” a few anxious moments. In the eight points win Roxanne Francis top scored with 14 points. She was well supported by Jordan Elliott-King with 13 but coach, Sue Elliott-King made special mention of the hustle of Gabby Patrick and Harriett Moss. This weekend the “Hurricanes” make the short trip to Leicester to Leicester “Cannons” w/e 29/01/06 “Hurricanes” get back to winning ways Cadette Women’s Midland Conference Northants “Hurricanes” 88 – 51 Hinckley & Bosworth “Lady Hoops” The Northants “Hurricanes” (Cadette Women) put a stop to their five game losing sequence with a 37 points win over Hinckley & Bosworth “Lady Hoops”. On paper this looks to have been an easy win but at half time the county girls only led 38-32 and had struggled against their East Midlands rivals who had shown an ability to break quickly from defence to attack. This simple strategy plus some poor passing caused the “Lightning” a lot of problems. A lengthy half time discussion sorted out the “Lightning’s” defensive problems and their up-tempo style of play was certainly not to the liking of the “Lady Hoops”. Such was the dominance of the Northants girls that they outscored their opponents 50-19 in the second half to run out comfortable winners and move themselves up to 2nd in the Conference table although they have played more games than all other teams. In the comfortable win Jordan Elliott-King and Kyrie Burgoine led the scoring with 19 and 15 points respectively. Gabby Patrick and Amy O’Connor both contributed 10 points while Roxie Francis and the Moss sisters, Chloe and Harriet all played excellent defence. This weekend the team will be looking to pick up another win when they travel north to play Doncaster “Panthers”
w/e 22/01/06 SOUTHEND SWIFTS 99 LONDON TOWERS 51 Next into action were the under 16 side, a number of whom had played for the under 18 team in London earlier in the day, and who have two games of their own at the weekend. When Towers scored the first three points of the contest, there had to be concern about fatigue setting in, but almost immediately there was a huge transformation as Swifts scored 19 of the next 21 points, with captain Emma Hart contributing 15. The young ladies were in no mood to relax and with the introduction of the fleet-footed Rachel Armstrong and Rebecca Brough, the tempo increased further for the home side to lead 32-13 after the first quarter. Matters were a little more subdued in the second period as Southend continually rotated their line, but Megan Roffey put on a superb display of passing to her team-mates that saw Helen Francis and 13 year old Francesca Whitby score four apiece, as the margin moved ahead to 52-26 at half time. After the London side scored the first four points of the third period, Swifts reeled off a further 10 unanswered and with Jacquelyn Jobey making numerous interceptions, from which she either found her colleagues or scored herself. the lead increased to 77-39 with one stanza remaining. The final quarter saw a remarkable display of distance shooting from Hart, who scored three three-point shots in the period, on her way to a career best national league haul of 46 points as her team recorded an outstanding 99-51 victory to stay in joint second place in the table. “Hurricanes” slip to fifth consecutive defeat Cadette Women’s Midland Conference Nottingham “Wildcats” 90 – 46 Northants “Hurricanes” The Northants “Hurricanes” poor run of form continued with a heavy loss against Nottingham “Wildcats”. Once again the girls made an appalling start to the game being overwhelmed 21-5 in the first quarter. They battled back in the next two periods but collapsed again in the final quarter to slump to their heaviest defeat of the season. In the 44 points set back Jordan Elliott-King was the only player to get into double figures with an 11 points tally. This weekend the team are at home to Hinckley and Bosworth “Hoops” w/e 15/01/06 |
